Led by Busy P – AKA baseball-capped, head honcho Pedro Winter - Ed Banger Records have risen from low key Parisian rock’n’roll cool to become one of global clubland’s most colourful and recognizable music outlets. It could be said they’ve ascended to maturity yet, in many ways, Ed Banger remains gleefully youthful, holding to the spirit of the party - a stable of DJ-producers with a huge sense of fun and old-fashioned loyalty to each other and their fans criss-crossing the world.
As Pedro explains “After managing Daft Punk between 1996 and 2008 I wanted to create my own history. By creating Ed Banger records I launched my own musical adventure in a way. I learnt so much with Daft Punk, I owe them a lot. Celebrating this 10th anniversary is very emotional, I’m proud I managed to write a pretty nice musical chapter in my life. Daft Punk as chapter #1 and Ed Banger records as chapter #2 is pretty cool.”
A decade in, Ed Banger shows no sign of slowing down. “I am a happy boy. It’s been 10 years of fun, travel, hard work and discovery. I feel lucky too, I met some strong artists, they are Ed Banger records. My main goal is to keep challenging ourselves. We are an alternative label, we are free to go where we want.”
To celebrate a decade in the EDM game the guys will be releasing a new compilation in June which will consist of 14 exclusive tracks from the Ed Rec family, featuring jams from Justice, Mr Oizo, Busy P, Cassius, SebastiAn and Breakbot amongst others.
You can already pre-order the comp on iTunes, so you should probably go and do that.
There will also be a series of ED REC birthday parties all throughout the course of 2013 all around the world including Sydney (stay tuned to Cool Accidents for all the info as it comes to hand re that one)
To tie us all over until the new compilation drops in June Busy P has put together a nice little mix which you can stream/cop as a free download below. It features tracks from the usual Ed Banger suspects as well as other EDM big names such as Erol Alkan, Les Rythmes Digitales, A-Trak, Skream & Tiga.
